42km Marathon

This is a beauty this course! Let’s start by letting you know for you Marathoners that it’s a double-lapper, however, we think you’ll be pretty happy with what we’ve got in store.

You’ll start at the Taupo Wakeboard Park and head over the red bridge on the ETA (Eastern Taupo Arterial road), and then climb gently onto the top of the Aratiatia Dam loop (eastern side of the Waikato River) where you’ll get magnificent views of the one and only Steamy Huka. You’ll get to the iconic Aratiatia Dam, make a left-hand turn and then head down the western side of the Aratiatia loop track.

Under the ETA you go and then onto the lovely, flowing Wairakei Resort Track where you’ll head through the brilliant and scenic Wairakei Resort, and up alongside Karetoto Rd. You’ll briefly pop onto the Tunnel Track, then we’ll get you across the road next to The Hub, and then you’re off for a magnificent journey of unadulterated single track bliss, beginning with the Junk & Disorderly track.

We’re going to pop you off J&D and you’re going to head along the grass verge alongside Wairakei Drive, and then you’re heading back into trail heaven where you’ll toddle along the superb Redwoods track, without doubt one of the best trails in Taupo, simply awesome stuff!

At Kev’s Track junction you’re veering right, and heading down to Huka Falls Rd. At this point you need to head up Huka Falls Rd, cross and make a right into Loop Rd, where (if you feel like stopping for a breather and a stretch) you’ll find yourself at the lookout staring straight at the amazing Huka Falls as the water cascades down over the famous drop!

From here, you make a right-hander into the Café Track, and then onto another incredible piece of trail for the trip home, the Te Totara Gully track.

And there it is, as the Red Bridge and the Wakeboard Park come into sight, you get to do all of that again, you lucky thing!!
